Toscana Biomarkers has been financed since 2007 by two institutional investors: Biofund and SICI, the latter through the Tuscan Venture Fund. This initial funding, covering the first 36 months, focused on identifying biomarkers for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
The full achievement of milestones has prompted SICI and Biofund to extend the funding for a total of 60 months (July 2009). The extension deals with the development of diagnostic tests for multiplex platforms. Toscana Biomarkers was recapitalized, and at present the share capital is composed as follows: Tuscany Innovation Fund of SICI (55%), Biofund (35%), co-founders (10%).
