SLE
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a disease characterized by the production of autoantibodies directed against a wide spectrum of nuclear, cytoplasmic, and cell membrane autoantigens. Anti-dsDNA, anti-Ribosomal P protein and anti-Sm antibodies are sporadically found in other connective tissue disorders and thus have been included in the serological criteria for diagnosing this disease. Anti-Sm antibodies are directed against the proteins that constitute the common core of small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (1,2).Toscana Biomarkers in cooperation with the Clinical Immunology Unit of the University of Pisa (Italy) is working on the identification of new specific and selective biomarkers for SLE diagnosis and prognosis.
